Shattered

A thousand tears fall like raindrops

washing away fragments

of a shattered heart.

Frantic fingers snatch

at shards sinking

in the salty stream.

Bloodied and trembling

they hold tightly

unsure how to begin

placing pieces together again.

My hands are open-

I am not frightened

by sharp edges and broken things.

I see your broken heart;

my own heart feels your pain.

I cannot erase the sorrow

or make whole the broken,

but I will hold you tenderly,

love unconditionally,

help gather the pieces.
