Five days out from competition means that today’s training session was really just about practicing the movements. I barely broke a sweat, but I am okay with taking it easy…for a purpose.

1a. squats, low bar

without belt: 45 x 10, 95 x 5, 125 x 3, 155 x 3, 175 x 1

These were feeling good. As I lifted the bar off the hooks for the single at 175, it felt surprisingly heavy. I took my step back and settled in for Michael’s command to squat, and the rep felt good, definitely not as heavy as it felt initially.

with belt: 195 x 1

165 x 3

1b. bench press, competition grip

45 x 10, 65 x 5, 85 x 3, 100 x 3, 115 x 2

Feeling good.

1c. rope face pulls

20 lbs x 15 x 2 sets

2. deadlifts, conventional

without belt: 135 x 5 or 6, 165 x 5, 185 x 2

with belt: 205 x 1, 225 x 1

And now the water loading begins! My weight this morning was 153.45 pounds. I need to be under 148.8 pounds by 5:00pm on Friday. Ideally, I would like to be 153-155 pounds by Saturday morning. I’ve consumed 4 litres of water today. Tomorrow will be 5 litres, followed by 6 litres on Wednesday and again on Thursday. No water on Friday. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it.
