Lost in Translation

As I was walking a few days ago and listening to the music that makes me feel powerful, I had the idea to do a bunch of blog posts about some of those songs. Then I got home, looked up the lyrics for one song and realized that the lyrics, when written out, really don’t have the same impact as they do when accompanied by a voice and music. My idea fizzled, because I wasn’t sure that I could adequately translate the power of the song through mere written words. I’m still not sure that I can, but the idea just won’t go away. Since I am walking a lot now and competition is less than six weeks away, I am all about the songs that make me feel powerful. So, this is my blog, my need to believe in order to achieve…

Roar by Katy Perry

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake your ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am the champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar!

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am the champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar!
